Amway begins in Ada, Michigan.

Founders Jay Van Andel and Rich DeVos coined Amway as an abbreviation for “American Way and thus represented the American dream.

 


1959

Amway launches its first product – L.O.C.™ Liquid Organic Cleaner - one of the world’s first bio-degradable concentrated multi-purpose cleaners.

 


1960s

The Amway Business philosophy begins to expand, in geography, sales, and product offering. 


1962

Amway opens its first International office in Canada. This would be the second of over the eventual 80 countries and territories that Amway would expand into.


1968

Amway sales reach $50 million. In 1968 the ARTISTRY™ brand debuts with 11 products and 37 shades.

 


1970s

1970s

Amway opens 8 more international markets, acquires controlling interest of NUTRILITE™ and as a result expands its product range from homecare and beauty products to dietary supplements.


1971

Amway’s first overseas office opens in Sydney, Australia. As described by our co-founder Rich DeVos, “it was the farthest away, so we said, well, if it will work way over there, then maybe it’ll work elsewhere.”

1980s

Amway enters the decade of the 80s by surpassing the $1 Billion sales mark.

Amway business opportunity becomes available for residents of 20 more markets, the amount of ABOs reached 1 million people.

Amway expands its U.S. headquarters in Ada, Michigan, and builds a new plant for manufacturing ARTISTRY™ products in Ada, Michigan.
 


1984

Amway celebrates its 25th Anniversary.

1990s

1990s

Following in their fathers' footsteps, Steve Van Andel and Doug DeVos succeeded as Chairman and President of Amway.

Amway expands into 33 additional markets around the world, including China and South Africa. In order to increase its brand awareness Amway Japan sponsored the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympic games in Japan.

Through the efforts of ABOs and our employees Amway managed to double in size over the decade. The number of ABOs grew to 3 million people around the world.

The new millennium would bring new partnerships, new innovations, and new efforts to help Amway achieve its vision of Helping People Live Better Lives.

 


2003

Amway launches the ONE BY ONE Campaign for Children which aims at changing the lives of children around the world for the best.

 



2009

Amway celebrates its 50th Anniversary.

2010s

Nowadays Amway remains a thriving international business with an annual turnover reaching several billion dollars.

Amway offers business opportunities in more than 80 countries and territories. AMWAY™ products are distributed through more than 3 million Amway Business Owners worldwide.
